The Journey

I am in outer space. All around me is coldness and dark. I cannot breathe. To breathe, I must enter earth’s atmosphere which is a mere few metres away.

I float over to the portal that will take me there, cautiously, for I know it will be a difficult journey. My breath has run out so I must go now.

The portal hovers, its gates are glowing and fiery, it taunts me with its promise of new life. I feel pain in my lungs, so I lunge through the rings of fire. I feel my entire body burn, shake, and spin.

The flames rip through me, projecting me through the air towards the ground below. The ground is blurry, and as it hurriedly rushes into focus, I recognize it as water. Before I can brace myself, I hit the wave hard, and plunge into its dark depths. The frigid waters grip me, and cleanse me of the grime and sweat from the intense heat that once consumed me.

I flounder upwards towards the light above, my head breaks through the surface and I open my mouth wide with a deep gasp. I breathe in the sweet oxygen and tread the new waters around me carefully.

I open my eyes but the light is so bright I must shut them again. This is my home now, and I swim towards the shore with trembling limbs
